If you were around yesterday, you got a peak at this incredible home office makeover. Today, we’re checking out this sweet desk.
Full disclosure: I said yesterday that the budget for this makeover was to the tune of $200. That is true, but there are a few items that I shopped my mother-in-law’s house for, this flat screen TV had already been purchased, and the wood for the desk we already had (for more on gorgeous cuts of live edge wood, see our Studio Live Edge shop). The chair and trashcan are the same as before also. So, now that we got all that out of the way, let’s take a look around.
That adorable iron magazine rack came from Hobby Lobby, which is great for corralling paperwork, coupons, and other to-do items.
This giant, stunning cut of maple came from the Pisgah National Forest. This sucker is 77 inches long and even more gorgeous in real life. I knew we wanted some real work space, so here she is. The desk is stacked on two of these cabinets from Target. We built simple, little platforms from scrap wood for each cabinet so that the desk would be at the right height. And that adorable clay cup I snagged from my mother-in-law’s kitchen.
I knew I wanted some kind of edison-bulb-pendant-light-thingy going on over the desk, but when I shopped around for pendant lights I could not believe how expensive some of these were. I finally found this lovely yellow light (available in several colors) at Books A Million, of all places, for $17! The bulb itself came from Lowes, as did the post the light is wrapped around, which was intended for heavy duty tool storage. Hehe. It was only a few dollars and worked like a charm. Yay easy things!
The bulletin board and gold push pins came from, of course, Target. It’s my place. My spirit animal is probably their stupid red logo. My sister is judging me as she reads this and shaking her head for the shame that my love of this store has brought on the family.
What do you think? What’s working? What would you do differently?
Come back tomorrow to see more of the home office.
