As a Cookbook
This what I have done the longest. Whether they are ripped out of a magazine, printed from the Internet, or handwritten by my grandmother, I put recipes in page protectors, divide by kind (dessert, appetizers, etc), and into my cookbook they go. I use this guy every single day. And if I get tired of a recipe? Out it goes. Easy as that.
As a Journal
I don’t know about you, but I have had many well-intentioned journals with one or two entries in them before I lost motivation. Journaling is something that I enjoy doing in short bursts–for seasons. Committing to writing in a journal regularly is just too much for me. When I cleaned out my room at my parents’ house, I went through all the old journals and ripped out the few entries in each one, slapped page protectors on them, and corralled them in a notebook. Now I have one major journal that chronicles little snippets of many different seasons. It’s pretty special and I don’t feel ashamed for having blank pages anymore. I just have a collection of the days I felt like writing down my thoughts. Cool.
Think of this as a physical Pinterest. The reason this is good? I enjoy flipping through pages much more than scrolling on a screen; it’s not Internet-dependent; it saves you from hoarding magazines. Rip out the pages with gorgeous decor ideas or artwork and recycle what you don’t care for. I have one for home decor and another for all things Christmas.
For Corralling Articles
This is my newest use of notebooks and I love it. I have a section for articles on parenting, a section for homemaking (recipes for homemade cleaners, stain removal guides, etc), articles about my faith, etc. I feel organized and I love that if I read a great book on parenting, I can copy my favorite chapter and stick it in my notebook.
For Storing Warranties and Manuals
Such a practical and wonderful use for a notebook this is. In our hall closet makeover, I mentioned this briefly, but I need to harp on this a little bit. Every warranty and manual goes into a page protection and put in this folder. It’s easy to do and when you need a warranty, it’s incredibly easy to find. This is too easy not to do, and since notebooks can be stored easily, it’s really a non-issue with storage. No files or boxes necessary.
What about you? Any uses for notebooks that I missed?
